Holaa..
So I am writing a new blog and shizz.. Was talking to a friend ( read - Monika ) who recently read my blog and all, and then told me that I should start writing again and shizz.. Was wondering what to write about, and there came a thought! I was supposed to email a friend ( read - Damini ) about one day, a day I'll never ever forget it my life.. Most of you would've guessed it by now, maybe even from the title of this post.. It's Metallica.. Do0o0d! METALLICA! METTAAAAALLLIIIICCAAAAAA! \m/
*in a Hetfield tone* YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! \m/
Ever since Metallica made an announcement that they're heading to India, bloody hell, I could see myself in the crowd going crazy!
So we had to book the tickets, and a lot had happened behind that cuz my dad dint let me book it online.. I got tired depending on my friends, and I finally did it myself and just said at home - Look, I booked it, now deal with it =P But my parents knew my love for Metallica, they cooperated ;)
Now a little intro on why I love Metallica so much!
I've been listening to Music for a really long time no, Music as in Metal.. Earlier it used to be bands like Linkin Park ( tell me who hasn't listened to them =P ) Godsmack etc etc.. Then one friend ( read - Thejus ) who shared my music tastes told me - Do0o0d, check out this song named Enter Sandman. Its by this band named Metallica. It sounds really good.
So I head back home, go online, typed Metal Sandman in Google, and up came this song, and I heard it, heard it again, and again and again and again.. Downloaded the song, put it on my then brand new Sony MP3, and head it again and again and again.. Holy shizz that was awesome, I mean, do0o0d that song =O ENTER SANDMAN! I ran to my mom - this i clearly remember - we had guests at home, and I told my mom to come to the room, made her put on the ear phones and said - LISTEN TO THIS O_O LISTEN TO THIS O_O - My mom all confused was like okay fine lets see.. and I played the song, and she responded sweetly saying - This song is nice - Aint my mom a sweetheart?
And I went on to explain - THIS IS MUSIC! THIIISS ISS MUUSIICCC! Its instantly better than all the songs I've heard yo! And then I go on a rampage! ENTER SANDMAN B's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The music took over me, it consumed me, and I more than willingly gave in.. That was the day when Metallica entered my life, among the first bands I fell in love it, that too, in an instant!
One more interesting fact! The first ever song I learnt to play on drums was For Whom The Bell Tolls!
So by now you can imagine, atleast those who know me and my love for music, just how important that this band in for me.. Its the band I grew up with. Its the band that made me who I am today. Its the band that made me love music, love metal, and now they're pretty much responsible on how I live. I dont know, I feel I've reached a point wherein I don't need to eat or drink anymore. Just plug in some earphones, play some music, and I'll be on. My life is driven by music at the moment. Even right now, as I type this, there is a song playing! Haha, and the songs name is - The Meeting of Pasts! ;)
So, along with few guys from here, I make my way to Bangalore! Reached there the day before the show, did some chilling out here and there in B'lore, and headed back to the hotel for a good nights sleep!
We had plans to reach the venue at 10am even though the gates would open only at 3. Haha, but 10 was when all of us woke up after a long night, and we headed over to the venue at around 2! We saw a massive queue outside the venue, we just walked up to the entrance, randomly cut into the line in front, got in!!! After we were in, we were like - Wtf just happened? How did we do that? - Haha, I just thanked God for that. I'm sure if anyone did that while I were already in the queue, my hands would get dirty ;)
Then we found out there are total of 3 entry points we have to pass through, and we were one down.. The 2nd one was a struggle.. lotsa pushing pulling falling abusing blah blah and we made it through the 2nd point alive and literally ran to the 3rd point, and we were greeted by a massive queue! While we were standing there, catching our breath, a random news reporter came, and took our interview and we were all delighted, and we sang, ENTER SANDMAN! HELL YEAH!
Then 2 guys randomly decided to take a walk to the front of the queue and saw someone we knew there.. the guy called us, we walked up to the front, cut the queue, and walked in hahaha! We were sooo amused by the whole thing, but we were simply over whelmed by the day that lay ahead of us!
You guys are still with me right? There's still a long way to go! Take a pee break, or go make yourselves something to drink ;)
And then we proceed to the stage and we were delighted cuz we got a place right in the front, very close to the stage, towards the right side.. We were all ecstatic! I was going crazy on the inside, but kept my cool and played it cool ;) After some crowd adjustments and all, the show finally started..
It started, Metallica Live In Bangalore, started!
Opening act by an Indian band named Inner Sanctum! They were epic! I'm a kind of person who goes crazy while music is playing.. Generally when you look at me, I look like a very calm and peaceful person, which I actually am, and if you know me, you'll think I'm quiet and sober ( though my appearance suggests otherwise ;) ha! ), and I wont really move! My friends know how hard it is to get me to do just one dance step! :) but when it comes to concerts and sows, I'm a totally different person. Headbanging is totally my thing, I will go friggin wild, and its hard to stop me from doing it.
So the band started, and played the perfect music for me to go crazy to! I take a couple of steps back, make some room for me, gave my friends a smile and just said - come, lets headbang! I let my hair long, get into the beat of the song. 1... 2.... 3... and there I go! Friggin going mad doing all the forms of headbanging I know.. I lost my balance going mad, but I dint stop, I dint want to, I was in my happy place again, and I just went on.. I stopped a little later to catch my breath, and a random guy next to me was like - dude, why did you stop, continue, let me take video! - hahah, I was very amused by this, and when I simply turned around, there were actually a lot of cameras on me - Oh yes, the attention! I'm getting attention! And it was a good thing!
So I thought ok, why not, and I restarted headbanging! And then happened a hilarious incident! As I was going wild moving my head and hair in circles, my hair got entangled in the glasses of a guy who was next to me, and I dint know, I dint stop, and there went his glasses flying someplace ahahaha, hilarious shizz it was! When I stopped, I saw the glasses being passed from left to right, and I just gave a glance and I looked at him and he was all - wtf happened :O and he was very amused haha.. I just apologized and I went about my business!
Inner Sanctum totally killed it, and I loved them! They were brilliant! Wish they had a longer set!
The next band was Guillotine! They're Indian too, but I dint like them that much. They had decent songs!
Then after a short break, came a new band which I had never heard of.. Biffy Clyro! And OMG, THEY WERE BRILLIANT! They just tore the stage up with their music and energy! They were versatile! THEY WERE FRIGGIN TIGHT! I was stunned watching them coordinate their music, and I'm pretty sure they were FLAWLESS! Seeing a name like that, I wasn't too sure, but the way they performed, INSANE!They played an awesome 45min set! I think it rained throughout their set, but damn, I don't think any of us cared, not even for a second.. Perhaps the rain made things better!
And then came the wait, the wait for Metallica. The Metallica Crew were going crazy on stage! They had to clear the water off stage, then set up everything from scratch! Metallica have around 80 people as crew! So you can imagine what all was happening! It took a while though as there were some problems, few of us were getting annoyed. My legs were giving up on me, cuz by then it was like 7.30pm.. I've been standing since 2, and all I had to eat the whole day was breakfast at 11 - 2 idli and 1 vada, and orange juice! =P
And then at around 8, the lights on stage went off, the big screen came on, and there was a huge roar of appreciation in the crowd, a massive crowd, A MASSIVE CROWD OF MORE THAN 50,000 PEOPLE! I was there for Lamb of God last year, I thought that was a crowd, but this was friggin brilliant!
And then came on the intro tape of The Ecstasy of Gold! All Metallica shows start with this tape! And we all began to hum the tune, and goosebumps all over! We knew, we all knew, we are going to witness history in the making.. We all are going to finally believe that Dreams Do Come True.. and after about 2mins..
Hetfield
Kirk
Rob
Lars
All race onto the stage, and then it began, Lars hit the first note on Creeping Death..
The crowd was going friggin insane, we went mad, I went friggin mad! We were all jumping, we dint know what was happening, it was just so much of energy, and we were all over powered but still fighting it, and The crowd went ballistic when Hetfield said - HELLO BANGALOOOOOOORE--AHH--HAAAA!
The song went on, we were going mad, jumping screaming shouting howling headbanging, we all lost control of ourselves! We let go of our worries, our differences, stress, you name it, and we were all united in the Oneness surrounding Music. Epicness was happening, History was being made! 30years for the band, 20years India has been waiting for them, and It was all finally happening!
I took out my came and took a flurry of pics quickly! I couldn't waste time holding a friggin camera, But I knew I needed something to keep as a memory! To relive it someday in the future!
And then came For Whom The Bell Tolls! And I saw Lars play that song, and I was flooded with flashbacks of how I was learning the song, remembering it, playing it in front of my friends, I saw my past as clearly as I could see the present! Seeing that I simply knew that I have been living the right life, and I definitely will continue doing the same!
Then came the song Fuel.. and Wo0o00! PYRO GALORE! We were stunned by the amazing brilliant use of Pyro in the show! It was friggin mad! We really got what we desired! Metallica were there!
Then came Ride The Lightning and we all lost it! Headbanging started then!
And then, Fade To Black - one of my favorite Metallica songs - Also brought back memories of playing this song for an Inter-School Band Competition in school! And we owned the song! And guess what, we Won that show! ;) That was just my 3rd show playing drums, and I was proud! =D The song went on well, we sang the song out loud, and during the solo of the song, I just shut my eyes, stood still and listened! My eyes were filling as I had always wanted to see this performed live, and all this was finally happening!
Then came Cyanide, and Rob was totally killing it on bass!
And then came the song, the song that will almost surely make Metallica themselves think of the Indian Crowd whenever they perform it! I'm sure we've set a standard for that song which is going to be very hard to top.. The Memory Remains! Like in every show, the crowd hums the last part of the song with guitar and drums, and then with just the drums! But we dint stop even after the drums stopped! We went on and on and on.. We say the look on Hetfields face when we weren't stopping, the look on Lars, Kirk and Rob! They were all stunned at just how we dint stop humming the song even after the end.. It was a magical moment!
Just imagine, you have a song, and you see 50,000+ people sing it in front of you, and refuse to stop! The band were clearly overwhelmed by the whole situation! I was humming along crazily as well! I dint want to stop, and I just thought to myself how proud the band must be feeling, what they must be going through when they see such a massive crowd, all of them singing their songs! Definitely humbled them, and I too found myself in tears by the end of it! I was hysterical! I was smiling, I was laughing, I was choking up, and I had my eyes fill up! But I dint stop, for Metallica, I would never stop! And finally the band claps for us, and Hetfield gets to the mike and says - You are beautiful Bangalore - And only then we stopped! I was totally blown away! I was humbled! And I was looking forward to my own life after this incident, just put myself in their place and tried to imagine.. I knew I wanted it!
And the next song, the next song, first note, we all knew it, we all erupted! Welcome Home (Sanitarium) and we went made! Singing along going crazy with the song!
And then Metallica asked us if we wanted heavy, to which there was a huge roar saying YEAH! and Hetfield, being as electric as he is said - METALLICA GIVES YOU HEAVVYYYYY and then starts the next song - Sad But True! And we all were once again going mad, and it was getting worse! We were surrendering!
That was followed by the ass kicking All Nightmare Long! A crowd pulling song and we were headbanging! I was going mad myself!
Then came the intro of bombs and gunfire, and we all knew what that meant! One of my favorite songs again - One - And as soon as song started, we all went psyched.. the acoustic beginning we were all singing like mad, and then came the heavy, and just before things went out of control, Off went the Fireworks ( I think the fireworks went off for this song, excuse me if I 'm wrong ) and we all lost it! People started going mad, moshing started, I got randomly thrown in and pushed and got pushed and then just settled to headbanging and we were all going crazy! It was friggin mad! OH NO NO NO NOOOO! *furiously headbanging*
And then came the Metallican Anthem - Master of Puppets! And crowd went psyched again, I ran away from the mosh pit cuz I dint want to hurt myself =P This was when I met 2 Arab brothers who were going mad, and they couldn't believe themselves at what they were seeing! They probably love India a lot more after the show! They came to me, said - Brother, they are infront of us!!! - gave me a big hug and the 3 of us started headbanging together and few others joined in! How ever random it may have been, we dint bother, we were all just too happy, too over whelmed with the whole thing, and we were all One with Music..
Then came friggin Blackened! And the next series of mosh pit started and I used the gap to take pics nicely =P
Then there was a small doodle by kirk, acoustic one, and we saw it coming! Probably the most recognized song of Metallica, Nothing Else Matters! And really, in that concert, nothing else mattered! The song started and I knew my friends would love this, and I took out my phone and started recording the video! Took about 1.5mins of it, and then stopped, I mean, I needed to enjoy the song! We all were waving our hands in the hair, singing along, we were at our happy place! And we were all at peace. Brilliance.
And then, it was about time, ENTER SANDMAAAANNNN! HELL YEAH!
My love and respect for this song is SO MUCH! I was just going crazy! Went friggin mad headbanging and a lot of others joined in! After headbanging to this song, I knew my neck would be dead tomorrow! =P But who cares? ITS FRIGGIN METALLICA!! *continues headbanging*
Then Metallica thanked the crowd, was about to leave, and we all knew they weren't going anywhere! We all started chanting WE WANT MORE! WE WANT MORE! Hetfield messed with the crowd and we loved it! And then came a new guitar on stage, and immediately started the song Am I Evil! And we loved singing that song! AM I EVVIILLLLLLL, YESSS I AMMM!!! What an epic song!
And then suddenly Metallica kicked in with a different riff, and Holy Shit, it was - Battery - And crowd went ballistic! Psyched it was and I dint know what to do, I lost it myself! I went mad! I was jumping, headbanging, hugging, holding my head! MADNESS!!
Then came the last song, and Hetfield said - its just 3 simply words - SEEK. AND. DESTORY! And that, my friends, was the icing on the cake! Everything we wanted, was all settled with that song! Metallica owned us! We surrendered to them! And I'm pretty sure they were taken over by us as well!
The show ended awesomely, lotsa guitar picks throw, drumsticks too! It was brilliant! We all knew that our dream has come true!
And it was at that moment that I realized - my legs nearly died on me before the show! but for like 2 hours after that, I dint feel a thing. Remember earlier in the blog I told you about Music and Me? That music keeps me going? Hence Proved.
Finally after a long time to exit, and a trip immediately back home, I reached my room and went flat onto the bed! Woke up with a lot of pain and went out to get painkillers! ;) Regret? HELL NO!~!!
So that, was Metallica. A day that I'll NEVER FORGET! ( Entire set list Here )
Music is all powerful! Its the only thing that will stay with us at all times. Personally for me, Music is my best friend. All through, good and bad times, my music has made things better. Music is who I want to be with. I live that way. There's a song for every mood! There's a song for every step you take! When you reach such a point, you'll not want anything else. I've reached that point wherein I let my music take me. It's not just heavy metal that I listen to! My taste in Music is diverse! There's something in every song, you just have to find what suits you best. Accept everything in music, whether its some awesome heartfelt solo from Floyd, or the growling in Cannibal Corpse, if you can appreciate it, you are a true musical person. You'll never be alone. Through all ups and downs, you'll have it ringing in your head. A voice inside which indirectly just tells you - You're not alone.
Music is what keeps me going. Music is always playing around me. Either on speakers, or I'll just be listening to it in my head. Right now, The concert is playing in my head! I hope that memory never fades! I hope The Memory Remains...
Thank You Metallica.
Ah, and those of you who missed the show, Metallica signed off saying - We will be back, very soon! ;) \m/

Ah, and those of you who missed the show, Metallica signed off saying - We will be back, very soon! ;) \m/
